Mane could miss Liverpool tie against PSG due to illness

Sadio Mane is a doubt for Liverpool’s Uefa Champions League trip to France to take on Paris Saint-Germain due to illness.

Mane splayed the whole duration of Liverpool's 3-0 win over Watford at the weekend, and also assisted Salah's 67th minute goal.

The Senegalese has been unwell for the past 24 hours, and could now miss tomorrow's crunch Group C clash as a result.

Liverpool will train at Melwood on Tuesday morning ahead of their flight to the French capital, and manager Jurgen Klopp intends to give Mane every chance of recovering in time to be part of his travelling party. A final decision will be taken after tomorrow’s session.

Mane is scheduled to appear alongside Klopp at a pre-match press conference at Parc des Princes on Tuesday evening, and his absence from the Reds squad would be a sizeable blow to their chances of recording a vital victory.

Win on Wednesday and Liverpool would be all-but-certain of a place in the last 16, but a draw or defeat would leave them needing a result in their final group match against Napoli at Anfield in a fortnight’s time.

Indeed, a loss against PSG could leave Klopp’s men requiring a two-goal success in order to reach the knockout stage.

Should Mane fail to make the trip, then Klopp will have the option of reverting to his favoured 4-3-3 formation, with Xherdan Shaqiri as part of the front three alongside Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino, or sticking with the 4-2-3-1 system used of late, in which case Daniel Sturridge would be in contention to start.

Either way, Mane would be missed, the 26-year-old having scored seven times in 17 appearances so far this season.
